Shantar Islands

The Shantar Islands are a group of protected islands located on the western shore of the Sea of Okhotsk in Russia. The biggest island belonging to the archipelago is Bolshoy Shantar Island, which was discovered by Russian surveyors back in the early 1700’s. This destination is home to an array of plants and animal species such as whales, exotic birds and even wild bears attracting nature loving visitors worldwide.
